The Masterpiece of Lovingkindness
"Show lovingkindness". It's a phrase first found in Gen 24:12. Abraham's servant, sent to fetch a bride for Isaac, asks Yahweh to show kindness to his master by actively helping the servant that morning. He uses the phrase twice more on this trip. But the English translation is incorrect. It isn't SHOW; it is FASHION. "Fashion lovingkindness"; "work lovingkindness". The servant is asking Yahweh to intervene, so that His kindness unfolds and is expressed in the earth. It's the same verb for God FASHIONING the sun and the moon.
As for the wonderful Hebrew word "hesed", oh! that word needs a book to delve into its deep beauty! Suffice to say it refers to not just an act of kindness, but to the heartfelt emotion and urge that gave birth to it. "Lord, please demonstrate your deep affection for my master."
Why mention this? Because the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is God's ultimate masterpiece, WORK of art, meticulously fashioned in the earth.
The Triune God, urged on by the lovingkindness welling up from within, worked living lovingkindness for us in our midst. And when I say "living" I'm not just referring to Jesus' life and ministry as a living work of art. I mean what He (They) created remains alive and active in our day. The power in it still buzzes and snaps with kinetic love, ready to intervene on anybody's and everybody's behalf.
It seems simpler pyramids stand in Egypt which pre-date the great ones. So also, there are dozens of OT examples of God fashioning lovingkindness in the earth: Interventions for His people; artefacts of His love. But His ultimate work is still on display and active.
